If you’re interested in trying your hand at making these delightful treats, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to make rice dumplings Chinese.
Ingredients:
– 2 cups of glutinous rice
– 1 cup of bamboo leaves (fresh or dried)
– 1 cup of water
– 1/2 cup of sugar
– 1/2 cup of dried meat (such as ham or sausage)
– 1/2 cup of dried mushrooms
– 1/2 cup of dried shrimp
– 1/2 cup of dried scallops
– 1/2 cup of dried seaweed
– 1/2 cup of dried lotus seeds
– 1/2 cup of dried red beans
– 1/2 cup of dried black beans
– 1/2 cup of dried winter melon
Instructions:
1. Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 2 hours or overnight.
2. In a separate pot, bring the bamboo leaves to a boil with 1 cup of water. Remove from heat and let the leaves soak for 30 minutes.
3. Drain the soaked bamboo leaves and rinse them under cold water. Cut the leaves into strips, about 6 inches long.
4. In a large pot, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Add the sugar and stir until dissolved. Add the dried meat, mushrooms, shrimp, scallops, seaweed, lotus seeds, red beans, and black beans. Cook for 30 minutes.
5. Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot with the cooked ingredients. Stir well to combine.
6. Take a bamboo leaf strip and fold it in half to create a cone shape. Place a spoonful of the rice mixture into the cone, leaving a small opening at the top.
7. Wrap the rice-filled cone with another bamboo leaf strip, tucking in the edges to seal it.
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 until all the rice mixture is used up.
9. Place the wrapped rice dumplings in a steamer and steam for 1 hour or until they are tender.
10. Remove the rice dumplings from the steamer and let them cool slightly before serving.
