How to Show Pictures in File Explorer
In today’s digital age, it’s common for us to have numerous photos stored on our computers. Whether it’s for personal use or professional purposes, being able to easily view these images is essential. One of the primary ways to do this is through the file explorer on your computer. Here, we’ll guide you through the steps to show pictures in file explorer on various operating systems.
Windows
If you’re using Windows, the process is relatively straightforward. Follow these steps:
1. Open File Explorer by clicking on the folder icon in the taskbar or pressing the Windows key + E.
2. Navigate to the folder where your pictures are stored.
3. Right-click on any picture file and select “Preview” from the context menu. This will display a thumbnail of the image.
4. To view all images in the folder as thumbnails, click on the “View” tab at the top of the window.
5. In the “Layout” group, click on the “Thumbnails” option.
Alternatively, you can change the view settings permanently:

2. Click on “Options” in the bottom-right corner of the window.
3. In the “View” tab, select “Change folder and search options.”
4. Under the “Advanced settings” section, check the “Always show icons, never thumbnails” option if you want to view images as icons.
5. Click “Apply” and then “OK” to save the changes.
macOS
On macOS, the process is also quite simple:
1. Open Finder by clicking on the Finder icon in the Dock or pressing Command + Space and typing “Finder.”
2. Navigate to the folder containing your pictures.
3. By default, Finder should display the images as thumbnails. If not, you can change the view settings:
a. Click on the “View” menu at the top of the screen.
b. Select “Show View Options” from the dropdown menu.
c. In the “Show” section, check the “Thumbnails” option.
4. To view all images in the folder as thumbnails, you can also click on the icon in the upper-right corner of the Finder window and select “Thumbnails.”
Linux
On Linux, the process may vary depending on the distribution and file explorer you’re using. However, the general steps are similar:
1. Open your file explorer (e.g., Nautilus, Thunar, or Dolphin).
2. Navigate to the folder containing your pictures.
3. Most file explorers should display images as thumbnails by default. If not, look for a “View” or “Layout” option in the menu bar and select “Thumbnails.”
4. To change the view settings permanently, right-click on the folder and select “Properties” or “File Properties.” Then, go to the “Appearance” or “View” tab and select “Thumbnails.”
By following these steps, you should now be able to easily show pictures in file explorer on your computer, regardless of the operating system you’re using.
