How to Remove Personal OneDrive from File Explorer

OneDrive is a convenient cloud storage service provided by Microsoft, allowing users to store, sync, and share files across multiple devices. However, sometimes, having the personal OneDrive folder cluttering the File Explorer can be quite cumbersome. In this article, we will guide you through the steps on how to remove personal OneDrive from File Explorer.

Step 1: Open File Explorer

Firstly, open File Explorer on your Windows computer. You can do this by clicking on the File Explorer icon on the taskbar or by pressing the Windows key + E on your keyboard.

Step 2: Access the File Explorer Options

Once File Explorer is open, click on the “View” tab at the top of the window. In the ribbon, you will find an option called “Options.” Click on it to open the File Explorer Options dialog box.

Step 3: Go to the View Tab

In the File Explorer Options dialog box, you will see several tabs at the top. Click on the “View” tab to access the view settings.

Step 4: Show or Hide Folders and Files

In the View tab, scroll down until you find the “Files and Folders” section. Here, you will see an option called “Show all folders.” Uncheck this option to hide all OneDrive folders from File Explorer.

Step 5: Hide Personal OneDrive

Now, scroll down to the “Additional File Types” section. Here, you will find a list of file types and their associated programs. Look for “OneDrive Personal Folders” and select it. Then, click on the “Change” button next to “Always open this kind of file with the program.”

A new dialog box will appear. Click on “Notepad” or any other text editor of your choice and then click “OK.” This will change the default program for opening OneDrive folders.

Step 6: Hide Shared OneDrive

If you also want to hide the shared OneDrive folders, repeat the above steps but select “OneDrive Shared Folders” instead of “OneDrive Personal Folders.”

Step 7: Apply and Save Changes

After completing the above steps, click on the “Apply” button at the bottom of the File Explorer Options dialog box. Then, click “OK” to save the changes.

Now, when you open File Explorer, you should no longer see the personal OneDrive folder cluttering your view. However, you can still access your OneDrive files by clicking on the OneDrive icon on the taskbar or by searching for them in the search bar.

By following these simple steps, you can remove personal OneDrive from File Explorer and keep your File Explorer organized and clutter-free.
