How to Perfectly Make a Bed
A well-made bed not only looks inviting but also contributes to a peaceful and comfortable environment. Whether you’re preparing for a guest’s arrival or simply aiming to enhance your daily living space, knowing how to perfectly make a bed is a valuable skill. This article will guide you through the essential steps to create a bed that is both visually appealing and practical.
Choose the Right Bedding
Before you begin making the bed, ensure you have the right bedding. This includes a high-quality mattress, a comfortable comforter or duvet, matching sheets, and pillows. Investing in good quality bedding will not only make the bed-making process easier but also ensure that your bed is a haven of comfort.
Start with the Sheets
Begin by removing the top sheet and the comforter from the bed. Lay the fitted sheet on the mattress with the corners tucked under. For a more polished look, position the sheet with the hem at the head of the bed. If you’re using a flat sheet, fold it in half and place it on the mattress with the fold at the head. Smooth out the sheet and tuck the corners and sides under the mattress.
Layer the Top Sheet
Next, lay the top sheet over the fitted or flat sheet, ensuring it is centered and taut. Smooth out any wrinkles and tuck the sides and corners under the mattress. If you prefer a crisp look, you can also tuck the top sheet under the mattress on both sides, leaving a bit of a pleat at the head of the bed.
Place the Comforter or Duvet
Now it’s time to add the comforter or duvet. Center it over the top sheet, ensuring it is smooth and free of wrinkles. For a neater appearance, the comforter should hang evenly on both sides of the bed, with about 15 to 20 inches of the comforter visible at the foot of the bed. If the comforter has a decorative trim, align it with the edge of the bed.
Position the Pillows
Finally, place the pillows on the bed. If you have a pillow shams, place them at the head of the bed, ensuring they are even and the corners are neatly tucked in. Pillows should be arranged with the smallest in the center and the largest on the outer edges, creating a visually pleasing arrangement.
Finishing Touches
To complete the perfect bed, add any additional decorative elements, such as a throw blanket or a bed runner. These can add warmth and style to your sleeping space. Remember to straighten and smooth out any loose edges and fluff the pillows for a luxurious finish.
Practice Makes Perfect
With these steps, you should be well on your way to making a perfectly made bed. Remember that practice makes perfect, so don’t be discouraged if your first attempt isn’t flawless. As you continue to make your bed, you’ll become more comfortable with the process and your beds will look more inviting and beautiful.
